Trout fishing on the Usk at Glanusk Park and EstateLakes

Beacon Reservoir in the Brecon Beacon National Park sites in beautiful scenery and is lightly fished. Trickle stocked with rainbows it is the wild brown trout that are the main attraction with fish up to 3lbs about. Permits can be had from the Forestry Commission office nearby and cost £6 for the day.

Cefynllygwynne 2 miles double bank, 1 mile single bank. the river averages 30yds wide here, good trout and grayling with occasional salmon in the late season. 4 rods available at £14 for all permits, season for trout and grayling £250. Usk

The Usk name is derived from the Welsh 'Afon Wysg which translates as 'river abounding with fish'. Nuff said!

Ashford House offer very good trout fishing on the Usk on a season rod basis where you can fish when you want, costs £260 per year or £420 if you wish to have a guest rod, call the Foundation on 01982 551520 or e mail admin@wyeuskfoundation.org

Dan-y-Parc rated as the best trout beat on the Usk consists of 1.5 miles of fishing near Crickhowell. Trout permits cost £30 per day and salmon £625 + VAT for a fixed day per week throughout the season. Call the Wye and Usk Foundation on 01982 551520 or e mail admin@wyeuskfoundation.org

Gliffaes trout and salmon fishing available on 5 beats consisting of 1 mile left bank split into three beats and 0.75 of a miles  double bank at Llandetty, each bank being one beat. Each beat takes two rods. Permits cost £22.50 for trout and £30 per day for salmon. The Hotel also offers fishing further upstream at Green Bank Monday to Friday only. Renowned trout fishing, a premier Welsh salmon fishery, great scenery and stunning runs and pools, that's what Glanusk offers the lucky angler looking for real natural fishing. The trout season is 3rd of March to 30th September while the salmon season is longer, 3rd March to 17th October. Spring salmon arrive from April onwards with May, June, September and October being the best months. Over 800 trout and salmon to 20lbs in 2008, now that's good fun.

1.5 miles double bank mostly easy wading over gravel, chest waders are recommended. The resident ghillie, Stuart Jarvis, is available to guide or provide tackle and tuition.

Kemeys Beat club water near Usk town consisting of 1070 yards offering trout and salmon fishing  (three salmon beats for visitors (salmon average 20 fish per year mostly to the spinner). For day tickets call Nigel Morgan on 01685 337848 or Frank Thomson 01685 386730.

Llanover the fishing cover three beats: Tyr Afon, Fro Isaf and Bryn on the middle river which extend over 2 miles double bank fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout (salmon average 64 pa over the three beats). Wye

Gromain 1 mile mostly double bank at Erwood, good fly water fishing for salmon, sea trout, grayling and Shad. 4 rods available daily at £40 15h April - 30th June and 15th Sept - 17th Oct, £25 all other times for salmon and £15 for trout and coarse fish, season rods available. Llangoed fishing includes Dol mendwy, Orchard, Home Catch and Llangoed Pools fishing for salmon, trout, big chub and pike and shad. 2 salmon and trout rods available daily at £30 15h April - 30th June and 15th Sept - 17th Oct, £20 all other times for salmon and £15 for trout and coarse fish, season rods available. The Rocks 1 mile single bank left bank, 1 mile above Bluith Wells for salmon, trout, grayling and big chub. at £40 15h April - 30th June and 15th Sept - 17th Oct, £25 all other time for salmon and £15 for trout and £10 forcourse fish, day per week season rods available at £333.33 plus VAT (no fishing on Fridays). Ty Newydd on the upper Wye has 1.5 miles of double bank fishing for salmon, brown trout and grayling, 11 named salmon pools. Salmon day tickets cost £40 and £250 per week. Trout and grayling permits are £30 per day for two fish. Call 01982 551520.

There is enough fishing here to keep you fully occupied for a week. Fishing for trout and grayling on three rivers; Elan, Wye and Marteg for a fiver a day, fishing on a spring fed fishery stocked with brown trout from the clubs own hatchery for £15 per day and fishing on 4 reservoirs totalling 850 acres: Craig Goch, Pen y Garreg, Garreg Dhu and Caban Coch for £8.50 per day.
