A to Z Guide of Where to Fish in Wales

Camarthen

Back to The Where to Fish Index for Wales

Teifi excellent sea trout and salmon water, July and August best for sea trout and September October for salmon. The Llandysul Angling Association web site has a mass of information about the fishing so I will not repeat it here, just log on to www.fishing-in-wales.com to find out everything you will need to know.

The Towy (Tywi) runs 70 miles south east from the Cambrian Mountains to the sea 10 miles from Camarthen. There is access to fishing along the length of the river and on its main tributaries: Cothi, Gwili, Bran and Sawdde from either private sources or on the many angling association beats. The river is famous for its sea trout fishing with double figure fish being taken regularly on the Towy however there are good runs of salmon especially from July. The river is a spate river and benefits from a good down pour. Salmon returns in 2006 totalled over 600 while the best year for sea trout in recent years was in 1999 when nearly 7000 fish were taken.
