While salmon fishing in Wales has taken some serious knocks in recent years the sea trout fishing remains second to none, indeed with the recovery of the once polluted rivers of South Wales the number of rivers offering fishing has increased significantly. Brown trout fishing has also benefited from the reduction is pollution adding to the list of rivers and lakes offering some first class trouting. Stalwart work by the Wye and Usk Foundation and many others has started a resurgence in the the fortunes of these once prolific rivers with salmon and sea trout returns improving and wild brown trout numbers and quality at an excellent level, the Wye still has a run of Shad which makes it one of a few rivers offering sport for these uncommon salmonids.
