Limerick

Bleach Lough run by Bleach Lough Anglers Ltd is a 55 acre spring fed fishery near Dromore Castle. The lough is stocked with rainbows and browns up to 10lbs. There are also pike, perch, rudd and roach. Fishing methods are mostly fly and spinning.

Day permits are available at reasonable prices and boats are available for hire. Permits from John O'Doherty News Stop & Angling Supplies, Mulgrave Street, Limerick.

Dohayle Trout Fishery near Rathkeale, a 45 acre lake, is run by the Shannon Angling Club who offer bank and boat fishing for brown and rainbow trout of 1.5 to 10lbs. River Maigue, Castle Roberts Fishery is run by Shannon Regional Fisheries Board. It is a salmon and trout fishery but at present the salmon fishing is closed. The trout fishery consists of about 1.5 miles right bank fishing, fly only 2 fish limit. For permits call 061 300238 or contact the local fishery officer on Mob: 087 9810817.

River Mulcair, Castleconnell Salmon Fishery. The Mulcair is a tributary of the Shannon, a quality salmon fishing water. Mostly grilse and summer salmon some springers enter the river in March and April.

The main run of grilse comes in May reaching it's peak in June. The river fishes best after a spate but there are stretches where fish do hold up. Hot spots are Annacotty Weir, below Annacotty Bridge and at Ballyclough, also Long Field, Boher, Brittas and Dromkeen.

A tributary of the Mulcair, the Newport river, also offers good sport as fish move up after a spate. Castleconnell, just 9 miles from Limerick consists of 4.5 miles of fishing on 6 beats. This quality stretch is excellent fly water and is is owned by the Electricity Supply Board who allow fishing on a catch and release basis for wild fish but you can keep adipose fin clipped hatchery reared fish. Annacotty, river Mulcair. The water extends to 32 km including fishing on the Newport river. They recon on about 2000 salmon a year so it's quite a fishery. Annacotty, County Limerick, call +353 (0)61 45599.
