The Doonbeg was famed for it's salmon and sea trout, an attractive little river unforunately it is closed right now for salmon fishing . Watch this space as the new netting regulations start to work, we hope, please!

River Fergus, the fishing on the river Fergus is considered to be free, but worth checking locally before wetting a line. The river drains a large catchment of limestone so the river is fertile, slow and weedy in places. Perfect trout country with wild fish to 4lb caught every year.

There is also a good run of spring salmon, Feb to April and grilse in the summer from June, they recon about 200 caught a year, not bad for free. Hot spots for salmon, Post Office Field, Sandy Hole and the Meadow, all near Ennis. Fly fishing for trout is good, dry fly would be special, salmon, they go for worm and spinner locally.
