Wye

Since the Wye threads its way through both Wales and England we have given it its own section, not the river it once was the Wye is fighting and it is hoped that the demise of the Irish drift nets will restore the river to its legendary state (and hope that the resurgence of interest in the tidal barrier will not then put an end to the Wye and Usk for ever). Stopping for a pint and a meal in a pub in Hoarwithey the evidence of past glories was displayed in cases on the bar wall, salmon to make the mouth water and by reports the big uns are still about.

Wye and Usk Foundation offer a Roving Voucher scheme giving access to 50k of river, log on to www.wyeuskfoundation.org for further details of this excellent scheme call.

Aramstone single bank above Hoarwithey, mostly spinning. I've been in the local pub in Hoarwithy, I've seen the fish on the walls, casually displayed and mesmeric to an aging salmon angler. In 1914 J Wnyndham had a 51lb fish at Aranstone, one of two, the other was a little smaller, looks fortyish pounds - hardly worth a mention.
