Cound Trout Fishery near Shrewsbury. Patshull Trout Fishery several lakes set a Capability brown designed park. Two lakes are stocked with trout (others are course fisheries), Great Lake opens March to October and is stocked in early March with rainbows and goldens to 10lbs. Bridge Pool is stocked heavily and opens all year round. Tickets cost £20 for 4 fish for a full day a boats cost £8 for two rods. Call 01902 700774.

Somerset

The famous lodge at BlagdonBristol Water offer fishing on 4 lakes two of which, Blagdon and Chew, are among the best known still water fisheries in the world. Bristol Water offer a variety of permit options including day, part day, season and concession tickets. The Barrows 3 concrete tank fisheries from 25 acres up to 60 acres fishing for Browns and rainbows in gin clear water, great sight fishing with the nymph. Permits £11 per day.

Blagdon aside from arguments over whether Blagdon or Loch Leven was the first still water fishery there can be no doubt the Blagdon lineage is impressive. Over 100 years old and 440 acres with 7 miles of bank Blagdon is certainly the grand daddy of all still water fisheries. Bank fishing £15.50, 18 rowing boats available (byo electric outboard motor) at £23.50.

Chew Valley opened in 1956 is impressive and challenging at 1200 acres. Created over fertile farm land this shallow lake (av depth 14 feet, max at the dam 35 feet) offers great fly fishing as a result of the abundant aquatic life. Bank and boat fishing, boats £29.50 boat £13.50 per day (there are 32 boats but booking in advance is advised).

Exe Valley Fishery Exebridge near Dulverton, 3 lakes stocked with rainbows two of which are fly only plus half a mile of the river Exe fishing for wild brown trout, salmon and sea trout. Call 01398 323328.

Knowles (Bristol) Angling Association control fishing on a number of still waters and rivers. The lakes are Chew Magna, a reservoir or about 5 acres stocked with Rainbows and brown trout, Ackers a man made trout fishery open all year fishing for rainbows and brown trout and Publow a small stream fed trout lake stocked with rainbows and browns which is open all year. The river beats consist of Upper and Lower Chew. Upper consists of 1.5 miles of beautiful weedy water just asking to be fished with the dry fly, Lower has undergone considerable improvement work to open out the pool and hold wild browns, grayling and rainbows. Fishing on lower Chew is by any legal method. The club also has a half mile on the river Yeo fishing any method for browns and rainbows and a stretch of the Wellow Brook offering challenging wild life fly fishing on a clear water tree lined stream. Wimbleball near Dulverton. Premier trout fishery of 374 acres stocked with rainbows to 8lbs, average bag 3.41 fish. Good mayfly hatch in June and July. Staffordshire

Blithfield Fishery is a 790 acre reservoir formerly run by Staffordshire Water but now in the hands of a not for profit organisation, Blithfleid Anglers. The fishery have 7 miles of bank, 26 boats and an estimated stock of about 30,000 fish, it is stocked with fish of 1.25 to 10lbs. Fishing is fly only. The fishery also has a stock of very big pike which can be fished for with the fly, the fishery has produced 6 fish of over 40lbs in recent years! Season tickets only, call 01283 840284.

River Dove, the famous fishing haunt of Walton and Cotton. Wild brown trout and grayling in this famous limestone stream from the Izaak Walton Hotel who have 3 miles of fishing on the Staffordshire bank from IIam Rock to the junction with the Manifold river. Wet and dry fly allowed, ghillies available. the season in 2007 is 18th march to 7th October for trout and 16th June to the 14th of March 2008 for grayling. Syndicate membership costs £195 per year. Fisherwick Fly Fishers Lake a 12 acre lake averaging 8 feet deep. Hot spots in the deeper water off the Woodside bank near the lodge. Best flies buzzers, GRHE, gold heads, pheasant tails. Stocked at about 100 fish per acres with average 1.75 lb fish. Best brown 14lbs 2ozs, best rainbow 16lb 2 ozs. All fish over three pounds to be returned. 5 fish ticket (plus C & R) £20, sports ticket £10, boats £1 per hours. Call 01543 433606.

Gailey Trout Fishery is a decent sized reservoir offering fishing for rainbow, browns and blues in a varied environment of gravely shallows, deeps of the dam (approx 20') and sheltered areas around the 3 islands. Stocked with rainbows, browns and blues in the range 1.5lbs to 10lbs.Good buzzer and sedges, damsels do well and the course fish fry in the summer can bring the trout right on to the feed. Some good pike too. Open all year from 8am to dusk, days 2 fish plus C & R cost £15 and a season ticket is about £350, boats are £5. Call 01785 715848.

Hanchurch Fisheries near Stoke is a complex consisting 9 course ponds, 2 canal sections and 3 trout pools stocked with rainbows and brown trout. A 2 fish 5 hour ticket costs just £12 (C&R allowed) and a sporting ticket costs £7. All browns to be returned. Call 01782 642481.

Fisherwich Trout Lake near Litchfield, a twelve acre lake (part of course / trout fishery) stocked with Rainbows, Brown trout and Blues ranging from 1.75lbs to doubles. Best Brown 14lbs 2oz, rainbow 16lbs 2ozs. The lake averages about 8 feet deep however there are two hot spots with deep water one of the Woodside Bank where it is 10 - 12 feet deep, good in the winter and off the oak tree on the Lodge Bank. There is also a shallow area between the island where the water is about 3 feet deep. Day Ticket cost £20 for 5 fish then C & R or £10 for a sporting ticket. Surrey

Albury Park near Chilworth is quite some venue offers fishing in 4 fisheries and the river Tillingbourne, Albury Park has its own fish farm, call 01483 202323

Albury Park - members only fishery offering fishing on a 1.5 acre lake and the river, stocked with rainbows averaging 2.25lbs.

Powder Mill - a big trout water with fish averaging 5 lbs, stocked 3 time a week.

Vale End consist of 2 lakes and a pond, Belmont lake, Birget Lake and Mill Pond and includes fishing on the river for rainbows and wild brown trout.

Weston - 3 lakes totalling 6 acres: Main Lake, Millhouse Lake and Wood Lodge Pool plus a beat on the river with rainbows averaging 2.5lbs up to double figure fish.

Frensham Trout Fishery, stocked with rainbow, brown and tiger trout and holding wild brown trout this fishery consisting of 5 lakes in a natural setting offers top notch fishing (record rainbow 21lb, brown trout 19.5lbs) with very good fly life for those who like to fish the top of the water. May, June sees a very good Mayfly hatch with buzzers all year and damsels, sedges and daddies very good in season.
