Norfolk

East Tuddenham Lake run by Norfolk and Suffolk Fly Fishing Society is a remote tree lined fishery of spring fed clear water, 6 to 16 feet deep covering 6 acres in two ponds. Stocked with rainbows, brown trout and blues every two weeks. Day tickets available at £16 for 4 fish, call 01603 423169 for further information.

Narborough Trout Fishery in the Nar Valley consists of 4 trout lakes and fishing on the river Nar which has particularly clear water and 1 course fishing lake. The fishery is stock with fish of 1 to 18lbs, is open 9am to 4.30pm all year. Call 01760 338005.

Northamptonshire

Pitsford Water, boat and bank fishing available in this reservoir stocked with 35,000 fish per year. There is a wheelyboat available. Permits from the Fishing Lodge, call 01604 781350.

Ravensthorpe Reservoir a 100 acre Victorian reservoir run by Anglian Water with a reputation for first class fishing for quality rainbows up to double figures and reports are that a pike of 42lbs was taken by John Sturges on the fly in 2006 so who knows, that 2lb fish you are playing might be live bait for a monster pike! Forget 6ln leaders go with a wire trace. Fishing is from bank. boat and float tube (hmm 42 pound pike). Call 01604 770875.

Northumberland

Chatton Fishery, between Chatton and Greendykes on the B 6348 is an excellent fishery consisting of 2 lakes, Chatton Lake (4 acres) and the recently built Ross Lake (3 acres) stocked with rainbows, blues and brown trout. The fishery record is a 16.5lb rainbow. There is nice lodge with a restaurant and tackle shop. The banks are clear of obstructions making casting easy, a great day out in a beautiful location. Open 7 days from 8.30am. Prices are reasonable and there are concessions for those over the retirement age and for kids under 13 accompanied by a parent. Caistron Trout Fishery near Rothbury, a 50 acre spring fed lake stocked with rainbows and blues and holding a good head of wild brown trout. As might be expected in a large fishery there are many hard fighting over wintered fish. There is also an 8 acre worm fishery and salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing on 2 miles of the Coquet. Falstone Fishing Club, 2 miles fishing on the North Tyne for salmon and trout. Permits cost £10 per day (£20 per day in September and October), £50 per week, from the Blackcock Inn, Falstone, call 01434 240200.

Fontburn, multi bait fishery, just off the A696 near Rothbury, call 0870 2403549, prices as per Keilder. Wheelyboat available.

Grassholme, multi bait fishery, follow the A6277 from Barnards Castle to Mickleton and on to Kelton. For permits call 01833 641121, prices as for Keilder.

Great Western, Whittle Dean, bank and boat fishing with fish averaging 2.2 lbs so far this year, best so far 5lbs 3ozs. Call 01434 681405.

Hallington near Hexam consists of two large reservoirs over 200 acres, East and West Hillington averaging 15 feet deep, stocked with rainbows, blues and browns of excellent quality. Fish average about 2lbs best, rainbow this year 8lbs, best brown 7lbs. Good fly life. Bank and boat fishing (boats are free) there are 2 wheely boats. Keilder Water, this massive reservoir has developed a reputation for top quality trout fishing from both bank and boat all method fishing permitted. There is a lot of space to fish on Keilder with 23 miles of bank available. Permits cost from £15 for 4 fish to £25 for 12 fish with a numbers of other options and concessions available. The fishing day extends from 8am to 9 pm or sunset which ever comes earliest. Permits from the Fishing Lodge by the dam or from Leaplish Waterside Park. Call 0870 2403549. North Tyne Belingham, 1380 yards of fishing downstream from the village of Bellingham for salmon, sea trout and brown trout. Permits from Bellingham country Store cost £25 per week, £10 per day 1st Feb to 31 July, £20 per day 1st August to 31st October.

Keilder Forest Fishing on a number of burns and rivers including Keilder Burn, Lewisburn, Plashetts Burn, Belling Burn, Chirden Burn, Tarset Burn, Warkburn, The River Rede. All legal methods up to 31st July, fly only August and September. Permits cost £3 per day, £15 per week and £25 per season from Keilder Castle, call 01434 250209.

Ovinton, Northumberland Anglers Federation has fishing on the North Tyne near Ovington and Wylam (plus 20 miles of the Coquet). Permits cost £70 per week and £25 per day obtained by writing the The Head Bailiff, 15 Woodend,

Snabdough, 0.5 miles of fishing for salmon and trout 4 miles from Bellingham, permits cost £12 per day. Call 01434 240239.

Sweethope Loughs Harle in Northumberland offers fishing on 2 loughs, Little Lough at 12 acres and Great Lough at 140 acres, both natural waters. The loughs are stocked with rainbows and blues, grade A of 2lbs and upwards. There are some wild brown trout in the Great Lough supplemented 3 years ago by stocking of 8 and 12 inch fish. Catch and release is the policy for browns. There are 20 boats available and good access for disabled anglers. There is also a caravan site on the shores of Little Lough. 4 and 8 hours session tickets as well as season tickets (valid for 40 visits). Call 01830 540349.

South Tyne

Alston, 9 miles fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout between Lamberley and Alston. Permits cost £20 per day, £55 per week from Hughes News, Alston; The Kirkstyle Inn, Knarsdale; JoJo Hair Salon, Font Street Alston; Lonnen Cottage, Jolly Beard Lane, Alston.

Haltswhistle, salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing on 6 miles of river. Day tickets available from Feb to September (October reserved to persons staying in Haltswhistle) cost £25 per day and £60 per week from Greggs Sport call 01434 320255 or from the Angling Club secretary Mr Wilson, call 01434 320942.

Haydon Bridge 5 miles of fishing for salmon and trout provided by the South Tyne AC. Permits are restricted to visitors staying in the parish of Haydon Bridge and cost £130 for 5 days. Contact Mr Marsh on 0143 684125.

West Water Angling near Hallington offers fishing on 2 large lakes stocked with quality rainbow and brown trout. Catch and take on the east lake while the west lake also allows catch and release. Average size is a healthy 2 to 2.5lbs with rainbows to 9lbs and browns to 11lbs. Full membership in 2009 is £510, boats are free while day tickets are available at £30 plus £10 for a boat.
