In the 1970's it seemed that Berkshire was being dug up and transported across the country to build motorways. Now those holes in the ground have filled with water and matured the county boasts a number of excellent fisheries as well as the excellent river and canal fishing that has existed for generation.
Barton Court Fishery, East Lodge, Kintbury, Hungerford, located off the A4 near Avington consists of fishing on a 3 acre lake holding good carp, tench, bream, rudd, roach, perch and pike. There is also a 3.5 mile stretch of the river Kennet available from 1st October to the 14th of March with roach, dace, perch, bream, pike, grayling, gudgeon and chub Call 01488 658905 or 07860 252717.
Blue Pool, Burghfield, a 4 acre clear water Cemex lake holding carp to 39lb+, tench over 7lbs, perch to 3lbs 12ozs and bream over 10lbs. The venue is open all year. For bookings call 01932 583630.
Horton Lakes, Stanwell Road, Horton near Slough, 5 minutes from Windsor. 2 lakes of 14 and 6 acres run by a syndicate, stocked with carp to over 50lbs! Not surprisingly there is a waiting list to join, call 01753 684458.
Kennet and Avon Canal a 1 mile stretch of canal between Cramwell Bridge and Heales Lock run by Reading and District AA. The water holds good stocks of roach, perch, tench, chub, bream and pike, best baits - maggot, casters, bread, hemp and worm. Call 0118 9867430 for more information.
Longmoor Lake in California Country Park, Nine Mile Ride, Wokingham. Holding stocks of tench, mirror, common and crucian carp, pike, roach, rudd and perch. Day tickets available, call 0118 9867430.
Pondwood Fisheries, White Waltham, consists of 2 lakes plus the recently developed 'Snake River' offering first class fishing for a wide range of species including carp, tench, roach, chub and catfish to over 50lbs. Call 01189 345299.
Reading and District Angling Association have fishing on 12 lakes holding a wide range of species and some enormous carp including the 50lb plus Jockey at Pingewood Lagoon. Tickets can be bought from tackle shops throughout the area or log on to www.rdaa.co.uk for more information.
Royal Berkshire Fishery North Street, Winkfield, Winsor. Built 1982 this fishery on the B3022 consists of 3 lakes: Lake 1, with good access for anglers with disabilities, holds carp (best 40lb 6oz) perch and roach. Lake 2, has a good range of species including roach, rudd, tench (best 5lds 7ozs), perch and carp. Lake 3 is a secluded pond set in woodland holding carp, bream, roach, crucians, perch and tench (best bream (7lb 6ozs). Good baits; maggot, caster, bread and worm. Barbless hooks and no keep nets. Woolwich Green, Theale. Described as a pleasure anglers dream Woolwich Green, an other Cemex venue, has 30 permanent platforms, open all year. Catches in the 100lbs+ are do-able with carp in the 25lb plus bracket, good bream, tench, perch and silverfish. Carp
Englefield Lagoon Pingewood, is a 40 acre gravel pit with good carp to well over 30lbs. Shallow, 2 to 9 feet deep, Englefield is weedy which presents real challenges when playing large fish. Call 0188 9817342 for more information.
Southlake Angling Society is a thriving angling club, situated in Woodley, Berkshire. Established on the 21st April 1969 the Society has three venues, 2 lakes and two stretches of the river Loddon, catering for the specimen hunter, match and pleasure angler alike.
Southlake, situated within Woodley, is a former estate lake. Predominantly a carp fishery with fish to 39lb 10oz. The stock is mainly twenties and thirties, with a few doubles and single figure fish.Fished quite heavily during the opening few months, Southlake is alsowell known as a good winter water. There is also a good head of tench, roach, rudd, perch and pike. (June 16th to March 31st inclusive)
Redlands, situated near Whistley Green, Twyford, is owned by the society. This lake is a general fishery with large shoals of bream to 14lb 15oz, tench to 12lb 10oz, good stocks of roach, rudd, perch, pike and a good head of carp. Redlands Carp stockis approximately 200 fish ranging from single figure to 36lb, the majority of these fish are upper double / low twenty. It is a harder lake than Southlake and the busiest period is during the closed season. Redlands has swims to cater for disabled anglers. There is also a small stretch of the river Loddon, running alongside the lake which produces varied bags of barbell, chub, roach and dace. (Open all-year-round)
Riverside Park, situated between Early and Lower Early, is a stretch of the prolific river Loddon and covers 800m. Predominantly a mixed fishery, there are some great Barbel in this stretch the largest so far being 14lb 14oz. Swans Lake Darby Green, Sandhurst. 4 lakes including a specimen lake offering day tickets for carp over 30lbs. Call the Academy Angling Centre on 01252 871452.
The Wasing Carp and Tench Lakes A syndicate water (no day tickets) with fishing on 5 lakes and 4 miles double bank on the river Kennet. There is a predator lake holding massive pike and perch. Call 01189 714140 for further details.
Bedfordshire
Manor Farm Fishery off the A1 between Biggleswade and Sandy is a mixed fishery consisting of 2 lakes, a specimen carp lake, a fly only trout lake and a new canal section designed for pole anglers and a short section of the river Ivel. The carp include common, mirror, leather, ghost and koi averaging 15lbs with fish up to 30lbs. Call 01767 317835

Carp
Arlesey Lake near Hitchin. A 1 acre lake where Richard Walker developed the Arlesey Bomb. Stocked with carp in the 20lb+ range. Season and day tickets available, call 01462 731709.
Heron Lake off the A1 in the Wyboston Lake complex near St Neots. A 6 acre lake with 3 islands, gravel bars, and lily pads averaging 6 to 8 feet deep. Stocked with about 75 quality carp to 38lbs. A syndicate water you can apply by calling 07733047008.
Buckinghamshire
Farlow Lake Iver, consists of a 25 acre lake and a 5 acre pool holding carp, rudd, roach, hybrids, skimmers, perch, tench and good pike. Good facilities for adults and juniors including toilets, a bar and cafe and a shop. Call 01753 630302.
