If all of the great fishing in Scotland is not enough for you anglers, there is off course England, Wales and Ireland to explore. England has some superb fishing venues, not just on the world renowned chalk streams of Hampshire but throughout the length of the country. Sadly salmon fishing in the south and south west of England has taken a hammering from the Irish drift nets in the last few decades but with the recent good news that the nets will no longer operate the once great salmon rivers; Wye, Test, Itchen and Avon and many more should see a recovery in time. Trout fishing in England has however gone from strength to strength as more and more large lakes were opened in the late 20th century, Kielder being the biggest addition. I hope this directory will guide you to some great days fishing, just remember that you must have a rod license to fish in England and Wales.

River Kennet
Denford Trout Fishery neat Hungerford offers day ticket fishing for wild brown trout, rainbow trout and grayling in their stretch of the Kennet. Fishing is dry fly only up to 30th of June then upstream nymphs are allowed. Call 01488 658539.
Grafham Water
1500 acre reservoir near Kimbolton
just off the A1 where over 65% of fish caught weigh over 2lbs. A
renowned fishery built over 40 years ago Grafham has inspired many
of the still water fishery tactics we all employ today. A wheelyboat
is available, permits cost £18 for a day 8 fish or £17 catch and

Church Hill Fishery near Mursley. 3 custom built lakes of 2.5, 5 and 7.5 acres each about 11 to 20 feet deep, situated in pasture land. Stocked weekly (sometimes twice weekly) with rainbows, brown trout and triploids. The fishery record for a rainbow is 17lbs 7ozss and 10lbs 4ozs. Call 01296 720524.
Vicarage Spinning trout Fishery, near Little Linford. A 6.5 acre spring fed gravel pit with very clear water varying between 11 and 20 feet deep. Stocked with rainbows, brown trout, golden trout triploids (with some pike about) on a daily basis with fish of 2lb plus. Call 01908 61227.
Earith Lakes Trout Fishery, near Huntingdon. 2 former gravel pits of 16 and 18 acres offering clear water fishing for rainbows, brown trout, blues and goldens. Lockwood Beck near Guisborough, North Yorkshire. Premier award winning fishery of 60 acres offering fishing from bank and rowing boat (bring your own electric motor) in and area of great natural beauty set within mature woodland. Fishing is from 8am to 1 hour after sunset using barbless hooks only. The lake is stocked weekly with rainbows, brown trout and blues (also some wild browns) of 1.5lbs to double figures The average weight to May this season was 2.75lbs with an average bag of 2.6 fish per rod. Derwent Water, 40 years old this year Derwent Water just off the A68 near Consett will be stocked with 40,000 fish this year including some selected rainbow trout. Sharpley Waters near Seaham, now consists of 11 lakes stocked with rainbows, brown trout, blues and golden trout. Fishery record is 23lbs 2oz, good access for persons with disabilities. Wear
Chester le Street AA have extensive fishing on the river for salmon and sea trout from the motorway bridge at Chester le Street up to Finchale Abbey. Fishing is for members and guests only but the membership costs just £60 per year (£7 for juniors). Call Geoff Curry on 0191 3887072.
Croxdale Ferryhill and District Angling Club offer fishing for salmon, sea trout, brown trout, grayling and course fish from Croxdale to Spennymoor. Permits from the tackle shop in Ferryhill cost £35 for the season (the club has beats on the Tyne and Swale too), call 01740 652360.
Durham the City offers free fishing on two miles of the river for salmon, sea trout and brown trout (plus big chub, barbel and bream).
Durham City Angling Club have extensive fishing on the river including access to some other club waters. Beats owned by them include Cathedral and Prebends, Shincliffe Village, Shincliffe Hall, Maiden Castle, Brasside Complex. Finchale Abbey Fishings two miles of fishing from one mile above to mile mile below the Abbey for salmon, sea trout, brown trout, grayling with some first class course fish available, good fly water. Permits cost £35 per season, £7 per day and £4 for juniors, call 0191 3866528.
Weardale Fly Fishers Club offer day tickets for their water from Stanhope Gauging Station to Rookhope Burn, permits from the Newsagents in Front Street Stanhope.
Westcountry River Trust offer inexpensive access to 39 beats on the rivers of Cornwall and Devon using an online token system. Rivers include the Camel, Tamar, Taw, Torridge, Fal. Crowdy near Davidstow. Water activity restricted to angling on this water which hold wild brownies, Fishing is free.
Siblyback near Liskeard, 140 acre lake with rainbow trout to 8lb. 6 boats booked in advance call 01579 346522, average bag 3.43 fish, permits £19 per day.
Stithians Lake 274 acre lake near Redruth stocked regularly with rainbow averaging 1.25 lbs, average bag 2.93 fish, boats available booked in advance call 01209 860301. Permits on site at £13.50.
There is a fantastic amount of great fishing in Cumbria as you might expect for the county with the Lake District.
Windermere and District Angling Club offer membership and day tickets on a number of game and course fisheries in the area and wow! What a lot you get for not a lot of cash. Membership for locals costs £70 per annum with senior, junior and disabled person concessions available. People living outwith the area can take out Associate membership for just £105pa (course fishing membership is just £40pa). The club also offers a Wild Fishing Membership covering waters holding wild brown trout for just £55 (£5 of which is donated to the Wild Trout Trust), this ticket covers; Moss Eccles Tarn, High Arnside Tarn, Hayeswater, Kentmere Tarn, Thirlemere, and the rivers Brathay and Rothay. Membership gives you access to all of the waters, use of the boats and facilities of the club.
Day tickets are available for some waters and cost £3 to £15 (£8 for wild trout waters, £15 for Kentmere, Ghyll Head and High Newton).
The games fishing waters are: Ghyll Head, Kentmere, High Fairbanks, Thirlemere, Dubbs Reservoir, Moss Eccles, High Arnside and the rivers Brathay (Brown trout and occasional salmon and sea trout) and Rothay. Exchange tickets can be had for waters run by; Appleby AA, Aspartia AA, Brampton AA, Carlisle AA, Kirby Stephens AA and Ribchester AA. There are boats available on Widermere, Coniston and Ulswater.

Lakes and Fisheries
Bigland Trout Fishery off the A590 near Haverthwaite, two lakes of about 17 acres stocked with rainbows averaging 2lbs. The Tarn if quite shallow with some deep water by the dam area. Fishes well with black buzzers, sedges, damsels and Fritz. Call 01539 531738 or 07771 681319.
Blencairn Lake near Penrith, fly fishing, best flies, GRHE, Damsels, Pheasant Tails, buzzers, call 017688824 for permits and information.
Brothers Water small tarn off the A592, free fishing on the west bank only for trout (pike and perch). Any legal method. Worth a visit just for the scenery.
Esthwaite Water,
first class fishing on a 280 acre
natural lake with deep basins to the north and south and extensive
shallows. High water quality means that wild trout can grow on to a
very good size, sport is enhanced with additional rainbows and stock
brown trout. Rainbows breed naturally here so you have the chance to
catch a truly wild rainbow trout. The fishery record for rainbows
stands at 16lbs 3ozs and 10lbs 2ozs for browns. There are several
permit options including bank days £24 (4 fish) evenings £17 (2
fish) concessions for under 18s and student and season tickets.
Boats cost £37 per day for one person or £62 per to two, there is a

Killington Lake a 37 acre lake holding both trout and course fish regularly stocked with rainbows and brown trout of 1.5 to 4lbs, bank fishing only, day tickets from Carlson Fishing Tackle in Kendall call 01539 724867.
Longlands Lake run by Wathbow and Ennerdale AC, lake with some wild brown trout and stocked monthly with rainbows and blues from 1.5lbs up to 9lbs. Fishery record is 11.25lbs. Derbyshire and District Angling Club has a wide range of angling opportunities available including salmon and sea trout fishing, trout fishing on rivers and lakes and course fishing. The club has two rods for salmon and sea trout on the rivers Mawddach and Wnion near Dolgellau. They can boast to having 22 fishing locations for trout in rivers, lakes and reservoirs including beats on the rivers Dove, Manifold and Derbyshire Derwent where there are still good mayfly hatches. Derbyshire Railway Angling Club has fishing for members on the river Dove (3 beats including Lower Ellastone - brown trout and grayling with a few rainbows, some fish of specimen size; a half mile beat at Eaton Dovedale Farm and 2miles at Tutbury and Scropton Farm with has a few trout and some excellent chub and barbel). Derbyshire Wye the Peacock in Rowsley offers day tickets for fishing on 7 miles of the Wye which has a reputation as first class dry fly fishing water for wild rainbows (rainbows breed on the Wye) and brown trout. Call 01629 733518
The River Dove, haunt of Walton and Cotton in Beresdale, a Mecca for anglers who love the history of our sport. The Charles Cotton Hotel in Hartington has access to some beats, call 01298 84229.
River Dove Wild brown trout and grayling in this famous limestone stream from the Izaak Walton Hotel who have 3 miles of fishing on the Staffordshire bank from IIam Rock to the junction with the Manifold river. Wet and dry fly allowed, ghillies available. the season in 2007 is 18th march to 7th October for trout and 16th June to the 14th of March 2008 for grayling. Syndicate membership costs £195 per year. Erwood Reservoir near Buxton is a deep reservoir of some 85 acres located in the uplands of the Debryshire Dales. Stream fed with peaty water the reservoir is stocked every month with rainbows and brown trout averaging 1.5lbs. Call 01625 525270.
Foremark Fishery reservoir reopened under new management in 2006 as a dedicated fly only fishery with 4 miles of bank fishing plus 20 boats. Stocked with triploid rainbows from 1lb to double figures. Ladybower, in Hope Valley, a beautifully naturalised reservoir near Sheffield offering bank and boat fishing for triploid rainbows and brown trout. Best Rainbow 17lbs 4ozs, best brownie 11lbs 7ozs. Ladybower is open from March to October only. Ogston Reservoir a 200 acres reservoir of clear water set in woodland and open farmland. There lake is an amenity for several water sports and has an exceptional bird life. Wading is not allowed. Willington Lake Trout Fishery near Derby is a 19 acres manmade lake with many bays and point giving it a bank extending to 1.25miles, the average depth is 3 to 4 metres. Spring fed the lake water is gin clear and supports an abundance of insect life including daphnia, corixa, shrimp and snails. A mayfly population has evolved in a short time with good hatches of buzzers and lake ilives. Buzzers, olives, GRHE, Dawl bach, and Montanas to well as do Mayflies and daddies in thier season. Goodisford Mill Fishery, near Collompton, trout and course fishery (carp to 30lbs) stocked with triploid rainbows, browns and tiger trout raised from eggs on site. Stocked daily with fish of 1.5 - 2.5lbs with several double figure fish included. Best flies Pheasant tails, gold headed buzzers and anything yellow all fished on floating lines with a long leader. River Frome
Dorchester Fishing Club offer limited access to their trout and grayling fishing on 7 miles of the Frome and half mile of the Cerne (45 tickets per season). Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and bank Holidays only, no day during the mayfly season, call John Alpin on 01305 266500 or 07889 680464.
Wessex Chalk Streams offers access to several beats on the Frome, Piddle and their carriers. Prices for the fishing varies dependent on the beat and the time of year, as a guide the range is from £35 per day to £70. Call 01305 808460.

Darwell Reservoir, near Sedlescombe, run by Hasting Fly Fishers Club, this 180 acre fishery hold wild brown trout and is stocked with rainbows. Good fly life including mayfly. Bank, boats and wheely boat available, call 01580 880407.
Powdermill Reservoir
near Sedlescombe. Built in 1932 this
56 acre reservoir offers great value fishing for high quality
rainbow trout. Powdermill is run by the Hasting Fly Fishers Club who
offer season and day ticket fishing at £18.50 for 6 fish, boats just
10 per day and juniors under 16 fish free when accompanied by a day

Yew Tree Trout Fishery Rotherfield, 3 lakes especially designed for fly fishing in a two wooded gullies in the High Weald. One lake is brown trout only. Call 01892 662982.

Keilder Water,
this massive reservoir has developed
a reputation for top quality trout fishing from both bank and boat
all method fishing permitted. There is a lot of space to fish on
Keilder with 23 miles of bank available. Permits cost from £15 for 4
fish to £25 for 12 fish with a numbers of other options and
concessions available. The fishing day extends from 8am to 9 pm or
sunset which ever comes earliest. Permits from the Fishing Lodge by
