Connon
Loch Achonachie Angling Club has 2.5 miles of fishing on the upper river from below the power station at Loch Luichart to above Loch Achonachie and the upper beat on the Blackwater from above Rogie Falls to Loch na Croic. Fishes best late on in the season. Permits cost £5 for the dawn to 4pm session and £5 for 4pm 'til dusk. The club have been very progressive in providing access to parts of the beat for people with disabilities. Permits from Contin Filling Station, call 01997 421948.
The Spey
Abernethy
Angling Improvement Association,
6 miles of double bank fishing with 15
named pools from Broomhill Bridge to just above Boat of Garten, Catch
returns in 2006 were some 750 sea trout and 139 salmon, best sea trout
7lbs and best salmon 15lbs. Permits from cost £40 per day, £145 per
week, juniors under 16 £10. Permits from Boat of Garten Post Office. The
club have installed wheel chair access to the Nethy Pool with concrete
stands. I believe disabled anglers can fish at this location free of
charge. AAIA have merged with the Aviemore Angling Improvement
Association and now offer fishing on 4 miles single bank around Aviemore
and trout fishing on Avielochan. There are some impressive returns from
this water including a 14.5lb brown trout. Permits cost £30 per day and
£90 per week from Aviemore Newsagents, Rothiemurchus Farm Shop or
Cairngorm Mountain Sports both in Aviemore.
Borders
Hass Loch, 5 miles from Jedburgh, run by Jedforest AA, rainbows to 10lbs and brown trout, facilities suitable for persons with disabilities. Permits from Jedburgh Swimming Pool call 01835 863430 or go to their web site on www.jedforest-angling.co.uk Permits cost £12 per session and £18 for adult and junior (3 fish limit then C & R, all brown trout to be returned).
Caithness
St Johns Loch, stocked with indigenous trout this is one of the famed alkaline lochs with a marl bottom. The most northerly mayfly hatch occurs in June when fishing can be excellent. Boat and bank fishing, there is a wheelie boat available. Prime condition wild fish up to 4 and 5 lbs are common. 4 boats available and a wheeelieboat, permits from the Northern Sands Hotel, call 01845 851270 or from Hugo Ross Fishing tackle, Wick call 01955 851270 (both bank and float tube permits are available). Perthshire
Butterstone Loch near Dunkeld is an exceptionally picturesque fishery with so much wild life to enjoy even if you were not fishing. Stocked with rainbows, blues and its own brown trout the fish average about two and a half pounds with double figure browns, blues and rainbows taken. Boats cost £23 for one person (oap £15); £38 for two rods (£24 oap); £50 for three rods (oap £36) for day sessions 9am until 5pm with a 6 fish limit. There is a wheelyboat at Butterstone. Fingask Loch a small loch on the Lunan Burn a mile from Blairgowrie offers fishing with good access for disabled persons, a wheelyboat is available. Call 01250 875402.
Skye
Portree Angling Association have a selection of rivers and lochs in west central Skye offering wild brown trout fish and fishing for salmon and sea trout on a number of spate rivers. The lochs are Cuithir Loch, Loch Luiravay, Loch Hasco, Loch Langaig, Loch Fada, Loch Droighinn, Loch Snaesdal, Loch Cleap, Loch Corcasgil, Loch Duhbah-sgoth, Leum na Luirginn, Loch Cleat, Mealt Loch, Storr Lochs recommended that you don't bother with the shallow south end (disabled access in one of the boats, Loch Leathan, Lochan a Bhealach-Bhig, Loch Scamadal. Stirlingshire
Lake of Menteith, In the Trossachs, fishing on this Scottish lakes is so highly regarded that it a venue for major international fly fishing competitions hosting over 30 competitions each year. Less than an hour from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth this 700 acre fishery is a challenge to fish but all thirty boats have outboard motors so getting about shouldn’t be too exhausting. Interestingly, when you reach your session bag limit you can fish on catch and release and can keep any fish taken weighing over 5lbs. A Wheelyboat is available for disabled anglers. Linlithgow Loch. Overlooked by Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, this loch has a great deal of charm. There is a wheelieboat available for anglers with disabilities. Carbeth Fishery, three fishing ponds, 3 acres and 2 acres fly only stocked daily with fish of 2 to 20 lbs and a one and a half bait pond. The two acre pond is accessible to disabled persons. Perthshire
Ledcrieff Loch Fishery near Coupar Angus consist of two lochs; Ledcrieff which is stocked with rainbows and brown trout where you can fish fly and bait. The dam wall is suitable for wheelchair users and a casting platform is also reserved for people in wheelchairs, Lairds Loch which is a specimen loch with rainbows and brown trout from 3lbs upwards, fly only. A full day on Ledcrieff costs £16 for 4 fish and Lairds costs £25 for 4 fish, call 01382 642430.
Dumfries and Galloway
Craigshaw Fisheries consists of 5 lochs which have undergone improvement work including; Craigshaws Loch very good tench to 7lb 2ozs, carp, crucians, roach, rudd, bream and eels. A mirror of 26lbs 9ozs was taken a few years back. 28 pegs with good access for disabled; Gledarroch Loch, tench, carp, crucians, roach, rudd, pike, perch, in gin clear water; Cluscarden Farm Pond, a small fishery with 7 pegs holding roach averaging .75lbs, tench to 3lbs and rudd, carp crucians and a few bream; Barndarroch Loch is undergoing a recovery, perch, rudd, roach, bream and hydrids; Whitefield Loch a 60 acre loch with pike and perch which is gradually being stocked with other species.
