Clyde

Salmon and sea trout are re-establishing themselves in the Clyde after nearly 200 years. Because of the impassable Falls of Clyde at New Lanark, migratory fish are confined to the lower river and it's tributaries including the Avon. Much of the fishing is controlled by the United Clyde Angling Protective Association and permits are available from The Secretary, UCAPA, c/o Civic Square Post Office and Newspaper, 39, Civic Square, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, ML1 1TP.

Mid Clyde Angling Association

8 miles double bank salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing. Day tickets £5 to 30th of June and £10 thereafter from Price Cutters in Larkhall, Motherwell, Coatbridge, Bellshill, the PO in Uddingston and tackle shops in the area. For more information call 01698 889472.

Tributaries

Avon

18 miles of fishing for salmon, sea trout, trout and grayling. £31 per year for visitors or £20 for locals for salmon (allowing fishing for trout and grayling) and £17 for trout and grayling, call 01698 791436 for information, permits from tackle shops in the area.

Gryfe

Strathgryfe Angling Association, salmon and sea trout. Permits from Blackwood Butchers, 15 St James Terrace, Kilmacolm, The Cross Café, The Cross, Kilmacolm. £3 pd.

Kelvin

The Kelvin was not so long ago one of the casualties of industrialisation but like so many rivers that suffered in the past it is recovering. Rising in the Kilsyth hills it flows for 23 miles before it enters the Clyde and benefits from the recovery of that major river with not only a good head of trout but even salmon and sea trout running the river. The river is under the control of the River Kelvin Angling Association who offer membership at a only £15 a year, tickets can be had from any of the tackle shops in Glasgow.

Leven (Dumbartonshire)

Season permits for Loch Lomond and the river Leven can be had by calling Michael Brady on 0141 781 1545

Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association have a lease on some of the fishing on the Endrick and Gairloch as well as fishing in the Loch Lomond and the the rivers Leven and the Fruin. Membership applications to the Secretary, Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association, PO box 3559, Glasgow, G71 7SJ or call 0141 781 1545, cost £160 for 2007 plus a one off joining fee off £25.

White Cart

The White Cart Angling Improvement Angling Association manage fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout from Waterfoot to Crookstone (including the Leven Water) on this once devastated water. Salmon to 11lbs, seatrout to 6lbs and brown trout to 5.5lbs have been recorded in recent years. Day tickets and season membership available, contact the secretary Robbie Finnie on 07960 101371 for further information.

Paisley Abercorn Angling Club have fishing on the White cart up to Crookstone, Black Cart from Linwood to Inchinnan and the Gryffe from the juns=ction with the Black Cart up to Craigend. Membership is £40 plus a £10 one off joining fee, day tickets are £5, call 0141 5893783 for details and tickets.
