The Feshie Below Feshiebridge

Eden

Eden Angling Association, salmon run from July onwards building until October. Sea trout can be taken in the lower river especially around the tidal stretches below Dairsie. There are a number of dams on the river as I recall though they may have been removed, a factor that affects salmon runs. All are passable with a good spate. Endrick

Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association have a lease on some of the fishing on the Endrick and Gairloch as well as fishing in the Loch Lomond and the the rivers Leven and the Fruin. Membership applications to the Secretary, Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association, PO box 3559, Glasgow, G71 7SJ or call 0141 781 1545, cost £160 for 2007 plus a one off joining fee  off £25.

Esk (Border) including the Liddle

Esk (North)

This exceptionally productive river is a pleasure to fish, I don't think I have ever not seen fish on this river and have on occasion been surrounded and soaked by then as they slashed about me.

Dalhousie Estate, salmon and sea trout on 2 beats, Upper and Lower beats of the Edzell Water, West Beat Only. Upper beat from Gannochy Bridge to the Suspension Bridge in Edzell and the Lower Beat from Lyn Martin Pool to the junction with the West Water. House of Dun Water, salmon fishing on this national Trust water, call 01330 830210.

Gannochy Fishing, call 01356 647331.

Loups and Dalbog the beats are about a mile above Edzel with 20 named pools, stunning place to fish but you need to be a bit fit. Loups starts from the Gannochy Gorge down stream for about 1.5 miles, challenging but productive water where a bit of climbing is essential, fishes well spring and late season. Dalbog offers more variety as it runs through farm land and a gorge, some good fly water. Price range £50 / £60 per day, call 01356 648322.

Montrose District Angling Club, fishing on the North Esk at Craigo, 5 miles up from Montrose on the A937. Salmon average 67 fish per annum and day tickets cost £35 to £55  Annual subscription for the club is £140pa (2006) plus a one off £10 joining fee. Esk (South)Black Water tributary of the Ericht

The is a near neighbour of the North Esk reaching the sea at the Montrose basin after a 47 mile journey from its source on Balmoral Estate in the Grampian Mountains, through moor land and mountain passes, the sandstone ravines of Downie Park and Ishewan and out across the gentle Vale of Strathmore. The river is renowned for its sea trout which are best fished for in June and July tailing off in August. There are good runs of salmon and grilse the best months being April and May, September and October.

Finavon Castle 12 miles up from the tidal basin is an idyllic beat well managed to enhance the angling experience. The beat is 1 mile long double bank with 5 named pools; Bridge, Tyndals, Boat Pool, Volcano and Red Brae. Salmon catches average about 50 a year and sea trout (average weight 2.5lbs with some fish up to 8lbs) average 110. Prices vary and the fishing is let by the weeks for 2 rods usually, the range is from 720 to £1000 (for 2 rods). A ghille can be hired for the week at £150 extra. Ishewan Beat, 20 named pools, of two 2 rod beats. Price £55 per day, CKD  Galbraith, Lynedoch House, Barossa Place, Perth, PH1 5EP, call 01738 451600.

Ettive

3 beats on this short spate river fishing for salon and sea trout. The fishing is let with accommodation, call Strutt and Parker on 01635 576905 for the upper two beats at Dalness Lodge and CKD Galbraith for the lower beat, call 01738 451600.

The Crainlarich Angling Club have salmon and brown trout fishing on the river Fallin over 10 miles of the south bank from the Cononish Viaduct to Loch Luibhair. Permits from the local shop in Crainlarich. (also on the Cononish and Dochart as well as the lochs Dochart and Lubhair)

Forth

Salmon, sea trout fishing on this surprisingly productive river (not surprising since it its tributaries the Teith and Allan Water are both good salmon rivers), hot spot being the weir pool just down stream from the M9 road bridge, permits from Stirling Council Municipal Buildings, call 01786 442000.

Finnart

An Argyllshire spate river offering salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing, 1st April to 31st October, permits from Purdies in Dunoon cost £6 per day 318 per week, call 01369 703232.

Findhorn

Cawdor Estate, 7 miles of fishing with 5 beats on this rugged section of river. Fishes best from May to the season closure on 1st October. For bookings contact Cawdor Estate on 01667 402402.

Culloden House Hotel, 3 beats right hand bank, one beat left hand bank two of which are for 2 rods over a 1mile length of the river and two are for 3 rods over one and half miles and two miles. There is a full time ghillie. Costs £40 to £45 per day plus £35 for the Ghillie. Call 01463 790461 for bookings.

Forres AC, have 5 miles of fishing on the Lower Findhorn from Red Craigs at Mundole Caravan Park downstream to the sea, for permits, day or week, call 01309 673931.

Dulcie BridgeGlenferness, 5 beats from Dulcie Bridge down to Logie Bridge. Average 300 salmon per annum. Contact David Balgownie on 01309 651202.

Logie is 9.5 miles upstream from the sea and consists of 3.25 miles of fishing in the Findhorn Gorge. There are two beats for two rods usually let by the week. The fishing is for salmon with occasional sea trout. The fishing really gets going from mid April with the best month being June and July. After May you can expect to be into a mixture of salmon and grilse. The average for the beat 112 fish. As guide you can expect to pay about £60 per day for the fishing, there is a track, lodge and part time ghillie. Call Marilyn Simpson on 01667 458900.

Old Clunes on the Upper Findhorn at Tomatin. Best month September but if you can get on anytime after a spate you can do very well. 5 year average 55 fish plus some excellent trout fishing. Fly only, prices from £25 per day to £80 in September. Days, three day and week permits available, call 01808  511208 or 0705 0096616.

Fleet

Rogart Angling Association have two beats on the Fleet which is a small eats coast spate river which drains into Loch Fleet north of Dornoch. The beats on the Fleet are: Polsons Beat, a large pool of about 200 yards available on Weds and Sat and Corry beat, available Mon and Weds, which extends from Davoch Bridge downstream for about 400 yards. Both beats are north bank and fly only. Permits from the Post Office/ Store in Rogart (who may have other beats available), call 01408 641200.

Garry (Lochaber)

Clunie water as it rushes to meet the Dee above BreamarGirvan

A very productive river with some 1500 salmon recorded a year. The river enters the sea just south of Ayr after flowing 23 miles from Loch Doon. Like other Ayrshire rivers the Doon is primarily a back end river with the best of the fishing in September and October.

Blairquhan Fishing near Maybole the estate has 5 miles of some of the most attractive (and rugged) fishing water on this spate river which includes 29 named pools allowing double bank fishing on all but the last three pools. Fishing is fly only (worm during a spate at the ghillies discretion) recommend an 11ft rod as the river is not big but some of the fish are. Best August to October prices £15 to £25 per day call 01655 770239.

Disabled person symbolCarrick Angling Club have three beats, Camreggan, Bargany and Enoch offering salmon fishing at very reasonable prices (£20 per day, £60 per week). The club has installed some excellent access platforms designed for disabled anglers. Call 01465 712007 or 01465 714601 for more information or for membership.

Dalvennan Country Sport, have fishing on the Girvan, Doon and Stinchar, call 01292 531134.

Glass

Rivers Glass and Farrar tributaries of the Beauly, day tickets available (£10 for trout, £30 to £60 salmon and sea trout), contact Culligran Estate on 01463 761285.

Goil

Fishing for salmon and wild brown trout available on the the river Goil which is a spate river best June to October. Permits £15 per day from the Lochgoilhead Post Office, call 01301 703201.
